Request a Specification Check
Confirmation checklist and message form for a network specification check, with model, layout and environment items.
Confirmation checklist for a switch or converter inquiry
The table below lists the items to confirm before sending a switch or converter inquiry, and each row names one item together with what to record for it, so that a buyer can fill in the table first and then copy the completed items into a message. The items are the machine or network, the application, the network layout, the port count, the power need, the fibre type, the mounting form, and the operating environment, and each of them can be answered from a drawing, a network diagram, or a measurement on the existing installation.
Fill in the whole table before writing. Mark any row left blank as an open item rather than guessing a value for it. An open item marked as open can be answered by a measurement or a drawing, while a guessed value can lead a whole selection down the wrong path, so the checklist treats open items as normal and guesses as the thing to avoid.
Model questions to answer for a named model
For a named model, the inquiry names the model, the application, and the operating values together, and then asks for a specification check against the model description, so that the answer can be checked against the same model page that the buyer has already read. For the industrial managed PoE switch model, the operating values to confirm are the port combination, the per-port power need, the management functions needed, the protection level, the temperature range, and the mounting form, each taken from the detail page for that model.
For the media converter model, the operating values to confirm are the fibre interface type, the fibre type, the transmission rate, the power supply, the temperature ranges, and the dimensions, each taken from the detail page for that model, together with the link distance and the link type on the buyer side. A buyer who confirms those values together, rather than one at a time, gives the supplier a complete picture of the link or the network that the model will serve, and that complete picture is what makes a specification check useful.
Certificate and commercial questions in an inquiry
For certificates, Certificates available upon request. A buyer who needs a certificate for a particular market or a particular application names that market and that application in the inquiry, together with the model name where the certificate question concerns a named model, so that the answer can be given for the same scope as the question. Certificate questions sit after specification questions in an inquiry, because a certificate answer only matters once the model and the application have been settled, and a certificate question asked before the model is settled can only be answered in general terms.
Before ordering, confirm minimum order quantity, lead time, and pricing for your specification. Price questions follow the same pattern: a price question that names the model, the quantity, and the specification together can be answered for the same model and the same specification as the question, while a price question that names neither can only be answered in general terms. A buyer who puts specification questions first and commercial questions after them keeps the conversation anchored to the model described on the detail page, and that order also makes it easier to spot a mismatch before commercial discussion begins.
What to send with the message
A message works best when it carries the completed checklist, the model or category name, and any drawing or network diagram that shows the layout, the mounting form, and the port arrangement, because a drawing answers mounting and layout questions faster than words alone. A sample or an existing part number also helps where the existing parameters are incomplete. Include the existing model number, available technical parameters, and a network drawing with the sample: a sample that arrives with its own parameters written down is more useful than a sample alone.
The message form below asks for a name, an email address, a subject, and a message, and the name and email fields are required, so that a specification answer can be sent back to the person who asked the question. Send the checklist, the model name, and a drawing together in one message, rather than several short messages that each add one item.
